From ancient cave drawings to modern-day smartphone images: people have always wanted to record important events. In images, in stories and in music.
In his St John Passion, J.S. Bach told the story in three different ways:
- The storyteller (evangelist) tells the story, without himself being involved
- The people who appear in the story and are part of the action. They follow Jesus, imprison him, crucify him and take him down from the cross.
- The people and their emotions: Peter who denied Jesus and regrets it, Judas who
who betrayed him and also regrets this afterwards and Mary who watched her son suffer and die.
In fact, the story conveys common, recognizable emotions that still occur everywhere around us today and that we
can capture in photographic images, or perhaps have already captured in our minds.
