The German Baroque from the 17th century, the so-called ‘early Baroque’, has produced music of celestial beauty. This program is based on the cantatas by Nicolaus Bruhns, who lived from 1665-1697 and inspired Bach. He wrote in a very expressive, emotional style. Baritone Michiel Meijer is the soloist in the cantatas ‘De profundus clamavi’, ‘Mein Herz ist bereit’ and ‘Der Herr hat seinen Stuhl’ by Nicolaus Bruhns and the cantata ‘Nisi Dominus aedificaverit domum’ by his contemporary Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. In addition to these cantatas, the program offers sonatas by Schmelzer and Biber.
Michiel Meijer – baritone
David Rabinovich – violin
Lilia Slavny – violin
Beltane Ruiz Molina – violone
